Grok: live web and X search, plus DeepSearch
xAI's AI chat assistant. It searches the web and X live, which helps with research on public information, and it needs the extra checks live data needs.
Facts below come from the sources listed at the bottom, checked on Oct 15, 2026. Not run by us for sales research yet. So we say what the vendor says it does, not how well it works.

What it is
Grok is xAI’s AI chat assistant, on grok.com and in iOS and Android apps. xAI’s Grok page says it searches the web and X (formerly Twitter) live and shows citations, shows its reasoning step by step, reads uploaded files and PDFs, and keeps memory across chats. It also lists a multi-agent mode, where several agents work on parts of a hard question at once. xAI’s API release notes list Grok 4.7 as its newest frontier model, released in September 2026.
DeepSearch. xAI introduced DeepSearch with Grok 3 on February 19, 2025 and called it its first agent: it browses and gathers information, weighs conflicting sources, and writes up a report. See the list of things we could not verify below for what that looks like in the apps today.
X data. For developers, xAI’s API has an X Search tool that does keyword search, search by meaning, user search, and fetching a post with its replies, with date and handle filters. That is the API. In the consumer app, xAI’s page says only that Grok has live X integration.
Grok is not Grok Bot. Grok Bot is a different product that works inside your apps. xAI’s own FAQ says Grok Bot is not the same as Grok on grok.com or the Grok mobile apps.
Best sales uses
- Recent news on one account. Ask for what happened at a company in the last month, with links. Open every link before you use a fact.
- What a prospect said in public. Ask what a person posted on X about a topic, as background for a call. Treat it as a lead to check, not a fact.
- Competitor chatter. Ask what people on X are saying about a competitor’s launch. Expect opinions mixed with facts.
- A second tool for our plays. The plays work in any AI chat tool, so Grok is a good second tool for our second-tool test kit.
Who it’s for
SDRs and AEs who research accounts, and owners who sell and have no time for a long search. It is a poor fit when you need an answer built only from text you paste in, because live search can bring in outside information. Say “use only the text I pasted” in your prompt and check that it did.
Setup effort
Easy. Open grok.com, sign in with an X or email account, and type. Plain chat needs no connectors.
Pricing (checked 2026-10-15)
- Free: $0 a month, with limited chat and agent requests.
- New paying customers buy The X Subscription: Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100, Ultra $200 a month. Premium has 4 times the Plus usage, Super 15 times, Ultra 50 times. Usage is one weekly pool shared across Grok and Cursor.
- xAI says prices are subject to change and exclude taxes.
Caveats
- Live posts are claims, not facts. A post on X can be wrong, old, or a joke. Check the source before you repeat it to a prospect.
- Check what it pulled in. If you asked it to use only your pasted text, look for facts that are not in that text.
- Privacy. Don’t paste customer data into a consumer chat tool without checking your company policy and the tool’s data settings. See Safe Use.
- AI makes things up. Check every name, number, and quote before you send anything.
- Disclosure. The first draft runs of our plays were done in a Grok Bot session, and this page was researched in one. There are no sponsor or affiliate links on this site.
What we couldn't verify
- Whether the name DeepSearch and its toggle still appear in the Grok apps today. xAI's current Grok page describes Search and Multi-agent without using the name DeepSearch; third-party sites describe a DeepSearch toggle, and we have not confirmed it in the app.
- How well live search works on company or prospect research. We have not run it for sales tasks.
- Exact free-tier limits. xAI's pricing page says Free has limited chat and agent requests and gives no numbers.
- Whether SuperGrok is still sold to new customers. The Grok page still says to upgrade to SuperGrok, while the pricing page lists The X Subscription tiers; check the pricing page when you sign up.
- Whether the Grok apps let you turn live search off.
