Dots: OpenAI's always-on agent in ChatGPT
An agent in ChatGPT with its own cloud computer that keeps working between conversations, reaches you in ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams, and asks before consequential actions.
Facts below come from the sources listed at the bottom, checked on Oct 15, 2026. Not run by us. We have no Pro or Business Premium account for it. So we say what the vendor says it does, not how well it works.

What it is
A dot is an always-on agent inside ChatGPT. Per OpenAI, it has its own cloud computer and browser, learns your preferences from feedback and ChatGPT memory, connects to your apps through plugins, and keeps making progress between conversations. You can reach it in ChatGPT on web, desktop, and mobile, and in Slack and Teams. OpenAI says texting is coming. It runs on GPT-6 Astra.
You pick which apps it can use and set Custom Rules that allow, require approval for, or block specific actions. OpenAI says actions that could affect your accounts go through an automatic review, and some need your approval. Steps like changing a password stay with you. You can open the dot’s computer to watch, and take over.
Best sales uses
OpenAI’s page gives one sales example: a sales lead on an enterprise deal asks the dot to check customer requirements against account history and product docs, find what still needs testing, and update the proposal and test plan, while the people involved approve commitments. Fit that to your own week:
- Deal watch. A dot that tracks one open deal across your email, docs, and calendar, and tells you what changed and what needs a decision.
- Proposal upkeep. A dot that revises a proposal draft when requirements change, for you to review.
- Standing research. OpenAI says that when you aren’t working with it, a dot does “proactive research” with read-only access to your connected apps, so it cannot send messages or change content in that mode.
Who it’s for
AEs and managers with a few long, document-heavy deals, and owners who sell and want one agent that owns a running responsibility. Not for anyone outside the eligible plans and regions, and not for people who want a one-off task done; ChatGPT Work covers that (see ChatGPT Work).
Setup effort
Medium. OpenAI says to create your first dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or a desktop browser, connect plugins for email, calendar, and files, and let it introduce itself. After setup you can message it from the mobile app. Plan time to set Custom Rules.
Pricing (checked 2026-10-15)
- Your first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium at no extra cost. Conversations with your dot don’t count against your ChatGPT usage limits, but tasks it hands to Codex or ChatGPT Work do.
- ChatGPT Pro is monthly only: Pro 100 is $100, Pro 200 is $200, Pro 500 is $500.
- ChatGPT Business Premium seats are $100 a month billed annually or $125 billed monthly, with at least two seats.
- Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare workspaces can try the beta when an admin turns it on. It is off by default.
Caveats
- Still rolling out. OpenAI says availability is limited to eligible markets and plans. Pro users in the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK are not included at launch.
- It can make mistakes. OpenAI says to review consequential work.
- Sales messages. If a dot drafts customer email, you still own consent, opt-out, and accuracy. See Safe Use.
- Company data. OpenAI says it does not train on Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace content by default; on personal plans you control that setting.
What we couldn't verify
- Whether every Pro tier gets the same dot allowance. OpenAI's help page says Pro and says the plan includes an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month.
- The 'over 4,000 apps' plugin count and which sales tools (CRM, sequencers) are in it. That is OpenAI's own number.
- What more dots will cost. OpenAI says you will be able to add more dots in the future and has not published a price.
- How well a dot handles a real deal. The sales example on OpenAI's page is an illustration, not a result.
