What it is

Clay is a workspace where you build tables of companies and people and add columns that look things up, enrich data, and run AI. Claygents are Clay’s agents. Per Clay, a Claygent takes inputs, follows your instructions, and writes a structured output. There are two types: general-purpose Claygents that run in Tables and Workflows (one row at a time, no memory), and Account Agents that run across every account in a segment and keep memory of what changed.

Clay says a Claygent has web access for last-mile research, such as reading a competitor’s homepage or pulling firmographic details, and that Account Agents can use account context from your CRM, data warehouse, and Gong calls. It says every Claygent decision comes with a full reasoning trace.

Best sales uses

Clay’s own list of uses, which we have not run:

  • Account research and meeting prep.
  • Finding data no provider has, such as niche company traits or buying triggers.
  • Personalized outbound drafts based on a company’s recent news or job postings.
  • Scoring leads against criteria unique to your business.

Who it’s for

SDRs, AEs, and sales or ops managers who work from lists and are comfortable building tables. Not for a rep who wants a chat window. Compare Manus for a lighter list job.

Setup effort

Advanced. Expect to build a table, write the instructions, test a few rows, and watch credit use. Account Agents need your CRM and other sources connected.

Pricing (checked 2026-10-15)

  • Launch: from $185 a month, with 15,000 Actions and 2,500 data credits a month.
  • Growth: from $495 a month, with 40,000 Actions and 6,000 data credits a month, plus CRM integrations and audiences.
  • Enterprise: custom.
  • Each AI prompt costs one Action, and the model you pick uses data credits. Advanced reasoning models are priced by usage. Account Agents charge one Action per record.
  • A 14-day trial comes with 1,000 data credits.

Caveats

  • Personal data. Enriching people with emails and phone numbers triggers consent and privacy rules in many places. See Safe Use.
  • Claygents write structured guesses too. Check a sample of rows against the source before you trust the column.
  • Drafts are drafts. Clay can draft outreach at scale; you still decide who gets a message and read it first. See Safe Use on email and LinkedIn.
  • Cost surprises. Run on a handful of rows and check credit use before you run a big table.

What we couldn't verify

  • Whether Clay still has a permanent free tier. Clay's agent page says Claygent is on all plan tiers, while Clay's plans page lists Launch, Growth, Enterprise, and a 14-day trial.
  • Data quality. Clay's page shows customer results (for example, manual enrichment 'eliminated' or 25,000 accounts sourced in two weeks). Those are customer or vendor statements and we do not repeat them as results.
  • Real cost per record. Clay says a fully enriched record typically costs 6 to 20 data credits and that AI model pricing varies by model.
  • How Account Agents behave. They are in beta.
